Skills

Some of the research methods that I use include:

  • Stakeholder and user interviews
  • Literature reviews
  • Formative and evaluative usability testing (both moderated and un-moderated, remote and in-person)
  • Surveys
  • Event-tracking analysis
  • Observation (including contextual inquiry)
  • Qualitative content analysis

Determining research questions, developing a study plan, recruiting participants, executing the activities, and synthesizing and analyzing data is only part of the job. Reporting prioritized findings and making recommendations that teams can act on requires another set of skills:

  • Prototyping (paper, HTML + CSS + JavaScript)
  • Information visualization
  • Building cross-functional relationships
  • Facilitating ideation workshops
